Summary
The Miami Dolphins overcame a 14-0 halftime deficit to defeat the Indianapolis Colts 23-17 in overtime at Pro Player Stadium. Running back Lamar Smith delivered one of the greatest playoff rushing performances in NFL history, carrying the ball a playoff-record 40 times for 209 yards and two touchdowns. Quarterback Jay Fiedler rebounded from three first-half interceptions to lead Miami's comeback, connecting with tight end Jed Weaver on a 9-yard touchdown pass with 34 seconds remaining in regulation to force overtime. In the extra period, Colts kicker Mike Vanderjagt-who had only missed two field goals all season-missed a 49-yard attempt. Smith then capped his legendary performance with a 17-yard overtime touchdown run to send the Dolphins to the Divisional Round. This remains Miami's last playoff victory.
